A traditional dental crown can take 2-3 appointments and weeks to develop and complete. For individuals who would rather not wait for the crowns they need, we offer an alternative solution. Cerec same-day crowns take those several weeks of crown work out of the picture, allowing you to receive your permanent crown in one appointment. No more temporary crowns! At Downtown Dental, we offer CEREC crowns for the time-saving convenience it provides for our patients.
What are CEREC crowns?
CEREC, an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, uses CAD/CAM technology to digitally develop restorations to fit your damaged tooth. CAD/CAM technology is what allows our office to provide some of the highest quality dental restorations. With the images we take, we develop your crowns using a digital model of your teeth and then mill the crown from a ceramic block base.
CEREC crowns vs Traditional crowns
With traditional crowns, an impression is taken of your teeth and sent to a trusted dental lab to allow time for the restorations to develop. This process can take weeks as we give you a temporary crown during that waiting period. Traditional crowns require/offer:
- Multiple visits to the office
- Several types of materials, such as porcelain, gold, ceramic, and zirconia
- An average lifespan of only 10 years
- Multiple methods, besides CAD/CAM technology
CEREC crowns streamline the process, allowing our dental team to work right in our office to design a perfectly-fitted crown that can be bonded to your tooth the same day. The digital impressions are known to be more comfortable than traditional impressions. The digital accuracy involved in designing and developing the crown helps provide high quality restorations. The technology also allows the patient to see the whole process unfold.
We have found that CEREC technology has helped promote longer dental health and a happier disposition overall for our patients. For patients who receive treatment, teeth may be sensitive after the procedure for a few days. We recommend avoiding sticky foods after the appointment and support basic dental practices such as brushing and flossing to protect your new crowns. To treat sensitivity, we can also perform fluoride treatments and sensitivity toothpaste.
What are the costs of Cerec crowns?
There is no increase in fee for a CEREC crown. CEREC crowns are recognized by dental insurance, with the levels of coverage depending on your provider. To find out your insurance coverage for crowns, please speak with your dental insurance provider.
